This two-year hotel management diploma programme aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for working in line and supervisory positions in the hospitality industry. The programme consists of two academic semesters and two paid industry placements.
The Diploma in Hotel Management programme at the Swiss Alpine Center is delivered in an actual hotel campus, in order to offer students opportunities for learning by doing, i.e. the respected Swiss education model. Equal emphasis is given to acquiring knowledge on the hotel operation and hotel management of different departments and to applying it in a real business environment.
First year hotel management diploma students learn about hotel operations such as front office, housekeeping, food and beverage production and service by working on duty teams and running the hotel campus operations under the supervision of expert instructors at the same time as attending theory classes. Second year students become more involved in the managerial aspects of hotel operations, by undertaking supervisory responsibilities such as quality control, shift plans etc.
In this way, hotel management diploma students are not only taught ‘theory’ during the winter and ‘practice’ in their summer placement, but combine theoretical and practical knowledge during the winter term, followed by actual industry practice during the summer.
The Hotel Management Diploma curriculum has been devised in collaboration with Swiss Alpine Center’s Industry Advisory Board, which provides advice and valuable insights on the necessary skills and knowledge that future professionals and leaders in this industry should possess. The exact breakdown of modules is as follows:
