The main aim of this ALPINE CENTER-devised course in Hospitality & Events Management is to produce graduates who have the appropriate knowledge and relevant professional skills to work effectively at middle or senior management levels in either the HOSPITALITY (Hotel) or MICE—Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions industries, both nationally and internationally.

The course is leading to a BSc(Hons)  Hospitality & Events Management

Philosophy of the Program

To be effective, managers require a range of abilities in relation both to any specialized areas in which they manage and to the process of managing.  In the first year, students are introduced to hotel operations as well as events operations which will equip students with vocationally specific knowledge and skills and generic skills.  They are also introduced to Diversity, Managing People & Cultures, Accounting, and the Spectrum of Technologies that are shaping the industry.  In the second year, students are introduced to managerial modules that equip them with competencies in Human Resources and Talent Management, Hospitality Management and Control, Sales and Marketing, Financial Planning and Control, and Event Planning and Management.   Students will have the opportunity to progress to a  Bachelor’s degree where the course will emphasize the application of management skills in the workplace and develop within students the ability to manage themselves and their staff.

In keeping with the traditional Swiss philosophy of blending classroom theory with practical application and management competencies, ALPINE CENTER runs its laboratory or departmental vocational training on the premises of a fully equipped hotel, giving students the opportunity to understand the essence of all service businesses including exclusive customer service.

ALPINE CENTER maintains and develops strong links with industry through the media of an industry advisory board, visiting speakers, industrial visits, consultancy, and research, which have been forged over a long period and an important factor in the continuing success of the school and its students. It is these links that enable the school to ascertain both national and international industry needs, and which the BSc(Hons) Hospitality & Events  Management course and its modules have been designed to meet.

Additionally, the 30-credit Dissertation module constitutes a distinctive feature of the program as it links directly to the 10-credit Research Methods module that underpins the former.  Both modules require the students to produce a 12,000-word dissertation of a publishable standard, which includes the generation and interpretation of primary, secondary and tertiary data.
